Set it to Full Screen, click Apply, and then reboot the EVE client. That should take care of it. When it restarts the window will open at whatever resolution you set the Desktop parameter to and the EVE client will just fill it up.

Yes, this is normal. You will get a Storyline mission for every 15 missions you run and they give you a big increase to the faction (Amarr, Caldari, etc) you ran the storyline mission for.
